The Unknown Knight

Characters:

-          To do with knights and kings

-          Sir Lancelot is flat; he never changes [always brave and modest]

-          Sir Lancelot has a girl [Lady Elaine]

-          There is the old hermit.

-          There is a giant that Lancelot kills.

Setting:

-          It mentions Camelot, [a mysterious idealistic magical place]

-          It mentions the hermits old cave [another magical place]

-          It mentions the Manor house of Sir Bernard in Astolat,

-          Other than that the setting is pretty much not really mentioned because they did not focus on setting in the Romance, [French Romances]

Time

-          There was a battle, Lancelot kills the giant, he finds a cave, he rests until his wounds get better, he moves to Astolat, he stays until he decides to go back to Camelot for the competition and wins it. All this happens yet there is no specific mentioning of time.

Theme

-          If the characters are Idealistic, and the places are fantastical, also their deeds or tasks are heroic then I don’t really think there is any theme whatsoever in these types of stories. Except that “perfect people being perfect at what they do, in perfect places.”

Plot

-          Sir Lancelot helps in the battle against Sir Turquine.

-          Knights of the round table wonder where he is after the battle ends because he doesn’t appear for many days.

-          Sir Kay decides that they should hold the tournament to celebrate his victory regardless of his disappearance because he might be stronger by then and show up.

-          Sir Lancelot finds an Old Hermit who lives in a secret cave and has his wounds healed.

-          Sir Lancelot reaches Astolat and Sir Bernard, takes him in without even knowing who his guest is.

-          Sir Lancelot hears about the tournament and decides to go, taking Sir Lavaine. Sir Bernard’s son with him.

-          Lady Elain asks Sir Lancelot before he leaves, to have something to remind him of her, and though he refuses at first, he accepts because he does not want to hurt her feelings. He ties a pink ribbon around his helmet

-          When the 2 Sirs, reach Camelot, Sir Lancelot they aid the loosing party, and win.

-          They both disappear before the knights of the round table can find out who they are.
